Business litigation: Parties seek ownership of California casino

Becoming the owner of a business is a dream for many in California and across the country. When that dream seems to be in the process of becoming a reality and plans begin to form, the excitement can be almost tangible for those involved. Unfortunately, disputes are common when establishments start to form, and for some, a business litigation may be on the horizon before the first opening.

A California man whose dream was to open a casino had his enthusiasm crushed at the grand opening of the casino he had reportedly spent four years helping to plan. The man goes on to claim that when the names of the owners were being listed at the opening, his name was not among them. He alleges that he felt taken advantage of when an attorney associated with business venture informed him that his name was not on the gambling license and that the attorney had instead put his own name.

The man and two other individuals filed a claim that the business was swindled from them, but an initial hearing purportedly ruled in the favor of the lawyer. However, the case has been brought up again by an appellate court. The attorney continues to allege that the parties seeking ownership of the business did not provide start-up money nor handled any of the required documents needed to create the establishment.

This case has already been underway for a few years and could continue to prove to be a complicated business litigation. Because a court has ruled against them in a previous hearing, the parties seeking ownership of the casino may wish to further bolster their side of the case by gaining knowledge of relevant California business laws. This information could help them determine a new approach to their situation.
