California judge moves forward with Google business litigation

The majority of California residents are aware of advertising that appears on their screen as they are browsing the Internet. Whether they are checking email, social media or looking for recipes, several advertisements typically appear on almost every page. Some consumers may find it interesting that some of the ads specifically cater to many of their interests, and numerous Internet surfers may not give it much thought. Others, however, are concerned about an invasion of privacy dealing with companies gathering personal information and may wish to pursue a business litigation.

Such a dispute is currently being discussed as a class-action suit has been proposed against Google Inc. According to reports, nine consumers filed a claim stating that the Internet giant violated federal laws by accessing private emails in order to post advertising for target audiences. Some of those pursuing the case were stated as being users of Google's email service Gmail, while others were not.

Google reportedly moved to have the case thrown out by stating that users agreed to such practices for advertising purposes. However, the judge currently handling the case chose to move forward. While Google representatives were citing their terms of service agreement as their means of gaining permission for scanning emails, the judge believes that the terms were unclear about the intent of such actions.

This business litigation could prove to have significant penalties should the company be found guilty of legal violations. Information on California laws concerning business disputes could be beneficial as the case proceeds and each side determines their courses of action. Business and class-action suits can differ greatly from civil suits, and having knowledge of the relevant proceedings could pay dividends while determining the best route to take.
